The Mayapur Institute had inaugurated Bhagavata-vicara, a weekly study of the Srimad-Bhagavatam, for the First Canto on the 1st of Januarythis year both in English and Bengali. It has turned out to be quite successful, in fact, more successful than we had expected.
The Second Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam will start on the 6th of August and have classes for 13 sessions, one session each Sunday afternoon for about 90 minutes. By default, those take up the course also deal with assessments, but there is also a facility to simply listen to the classes. Those who have attended all the classes as listeners or attended the classes and completed the assessments as students will receive certificates from the Mayapur Institute stating so. The Mayapur Institute intends to complete all of these Cantos one by one, and then restart with series beginning with the First Canto; so, devotees who had not taken up the First Canto in Bhagavata-vicara can still join in from the Second Canto. The fee for this course is a nominal fee of Rs 100 per month.
This course offers the residents of Sri Mayapur a fine opportunity to continuously hear, remember and repeat the glories of the Lord as described in Srimad-Bhagavatam, which is itself highly recommended in Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.8.36: “O Kṛṣṇa, those who continuously hear, chant and repeat Your transcendental activities, or take pleasure in others’ doing so, certainly see Your lotus feet, which alone can stop the repetition of birth and death.”
